this was actually an update, huh?

two years ago i witnessed the most exciting event in my life as a sports fan
the pistons were NBA champions
everyone was talking about a dynasty in progress
ever since that moment, that championship season, i have been waiting for that feeling to strike me again
to leap and scream and cry with joy
to jump on my father's back and punch my grandpa in the arm
to share the moment with three generations of lifelong pistons fans
because that is what i am, and that is what i will always be
i have been anticipating the rush of excitement that comes with winning a championship for two years now
two long years filled with disappointment
i wept when we lost game seven to san antonio
to come so close and then fall at the last second was devastating
and this year i watched every amazing minute, and every painful second
as detroit faltered again, as i again shed tears of angst instead of joy, i realized something
everyone has been talking about how bad the pistons have played lately
there has been lots of blame put on different individuals in the organization
but this is all bullshit
we don't understand what happened to our team that was supposed to become a dynasty
and so we complain and bitch and speculate to try to uncover the mystery
but that is not detroit basketball
that's not the way we are supposed to do things here
i have full confidence in this team
we will be back next year with a vengeance, more humbled by this years shortcomings
this postseason was a giant disappointment
but the regular season was amazing:
best detroit record of all time
four all stars
ben wallace's fourth defensive player of the year award
chauncey's mvp candidacy
all NBA team selections
the pistons gave us a hell of a lot to cheer about this season
and even though the playoffs weren't what they should have been, it was still an exciting ride
i have never had more fun at a game than i did at game five against miami
so for all this, i say thank you to the detroit pistons
i will forever be the greatest fan that i can be
i will never forget that championship, the first that i was old enough to remember
and i will wait (impatiently) until the day when i can feel that excitement again
